Discover Carbon County, WY Launches New Interactive Mobile App—Inspiring Exploration Across the Region

Travelers exploring Carbon County now have a new way to experience one of Wyoming’s most diverse outdoor destinations. Discover Carbon County has officially launched a new mobile app that makes it easier to uncover the region’s mountains, hot springs, historic landmarks, local businesses, and hidden gems through one connected digital experience.

Tucked between the Snowy Range and the Sierra Madre Mountains, Carbon County is the kind of place that rewards the curious. It’s where you can hike to the 12,013-foot summit of Medicine Bow Peak in the morning, soak in the free, 24/7 mineral waters of Hobo Hot Springs by afternoon, and cast a line into one of more than 300 miles of blue-ribbon trout streams before dark. Now, visitors have a new tool to help discover it all.

Built in partnership with ITI Digital, the Discover Carbon County app is available now on iOS and Android. The app combines real-time business listings, a dynamic events calendar, GPS-enabled itineraries, and the destination’s signature feature: the Carbon County Trail Game.

At the heart of the Discover Carbon County app is the Carbon County Trail Game, an interactive check-in experience designed to encourage visitors to explore businesses, museums, attractions, and other points of interest throughout the county.

Each trail is organized around a theme and includes multiple stops. Travelers can check in at participating locations by scanning a QR code when they are within half a mile of a stop. If they are farther away, the app provides turn-by-turn directions to help them get there.

As participants reach milestones and complete trails, they can earn physical rewards, including exclusive trail stickers and T-shirts. The experience adds another reason to explore beyond familiar stops while introducing travelers to places they might not otherwise discover.

The County Museum Trail, for example, connects visitors with historical attractions across Carbon County. Stops showcase different parts of the area’s story, from the historic cell blocks of the Wyoming Frontier Prison in Rawlins to the collections of the Grand Encampment Museum.

Beyond the Trail Game, the Discover Carbon County app gives travelers access to destination information throughout their visit.

Business listings provide details such as hours and contact information, while the events calendar gives visitors a central place to discover festivals, community celebrations, and seasonal programs. GPS-enabled suggested itineraries connect multiple stops into trip ideas that help travelers explore more of Carbon County.

Together, these features make it easier to move from planning to exploring—whether that means discovering the turquoise waters of Seminoe State Park, finding an upcoming event, locating a nearby business, or following an itinerary across Carbon County’s wide-open landscapes.

“We wanted to launch a mobile app for our visitors because we wanted them to be able to have easy access anytime to everything that Carbon County has to offer, including lodging, restaurants, things to do, and the events calendar. Being able to have this information on hand gives a better opportunity to be able to plan a trip to Carbon County. We also wanted to release our new interactive trails and the mobile app was the best place to do that.”

The Discover Carbon County mobile app is connected to ITI Digital’s Destination Experience Platform (DXP), allowing destination content to be managed across the website and mobile experience from a connected system.

Business listings, events, itineraries, and other visitor information can sync between Discover Carbon County’s website and mobile app. Rather than maintaining the same information separately across multiple channels, staff can manage destination content more efficiently while giving travelers access to consistent information wherever they choose to plan.

The connected approach also helps reduce repetitive content-management tasks, giving the Discover Carbon County team more time to focus on marketing the destination and developing experiences for visitors.

“ITI Digital was the right partner because they had everything that we were looking for when we envisioned what we wanted our mobile app to be. The whole team was very easy to work with and we also got to provide feedback during the whole process, so we had input on what would and would not work for us.”

The Discover Carbon County app is available now as a free download for IOS through the Apple App Store and Android through Google Play.
